Herbert “Hub” Broadhead, age 73, of Calera, passed away Jan. 14.
Hub was a retired United Mine Worker and owned Broadhead Excavating. He was a loving father and Paw Paw, devoted friend to all, and an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Payne Broadhead; grandson, Jeremy Wayne McDonald; brothers, Leon Broadhead and Larry Broadhead; and sisters, Marie Gentry Ellison and Caroline Broadhead.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Kay Jackson Broadhead; daughters, Becky Bowen (Reggie) of Jemison and Leigh Brayer (Bill) of Calera; son, Alan Broadhead (Kathy) of Calera; stepsons, Larry Compton and Ronnie Miskelley, both of Calera; grandsons, Zane Broadhead, Elijah Broadhead, Blake Holcomb, Austin Miskelley, Dustin Compton and Todd Bowen; granddaughters, Mary Beth Cox, Brittany Holcomb, Kate Broadhead, Candace Elrod, Kayla Snell and Shanda Bowen; numerous foster children and great-grandchildren; brother, Harrell Broadhead (Joy) of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and brother-in-law, Willie Payne of Montevallo.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Calera First United Methodist Church. His funeral service will be at the church on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. Rev. David Allison and Rev. Joe Glass will officiate. Burial will be at Rocky Mount Cemetery and his grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
