COLUMBIANA–On Nov. 14, 26 of the Shelby County High School Agricultural Science students took the Columbiana Trolley to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility to spend a day with Shelby County officers and one of the Wildlife and Game Conservation officers.

While on the trip, students shot 20 gauge shotguns at moving clay targets. Thanks to the Alabama Wildlife and Conservation officer and the police officers at the training facility, the students are better educated about gun safety and tips on shooting the moving targets.

Though the temperature was freezing, it didn’t stop the students from volunteering to shoot the targets. When the shooter called “pull” the deputy would press a button that would release a target from one of the six boxes.

Even though the wind was challenging, the Alabama Wildlife and Conservation officer demonstrated strategies that would increase chances of hitting the target.

“It was very fun, I have been shooting guns since I was about 5-years-old and its cool knowing there is field trips that involve doing stuff I grew up learning,” Agricultural Science student by Brandon Hughes stated.
