ALABASTER – Alabama State Sen. Cam Ward, R-Alabaster, will be the featured speaker for Siluria Baptist Church’s Men’s Day on Jan. 25.

Ward served two terms in the Alabama House of Representatives, and in 2010 was elected to the Alabama Senate representing parts of Shelby, Bibb, Chilton and Jefferson counties.

Born in Milton, Fla., Ward studied at Troy University on a leadership scholarship, served two terms as president of the Troy Student Government Association and graduated from the Cumberland Law School, where he was named Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 2011.

Former Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor appointed Ward deputy attorney general and assigned him to the Alabama state auditor’s office. Later he was named assistant secretary of state dealing with election laws and corporate filings. After moving to Shelby County, Ward served as district director for Congressman Spencer Bachus.

Ward returned to the practice of law in 2001, and was hired to direct economic development efforts for the city of Alabaster. He has worked with local leaders for more than a decade to expand Alabaster’s retail shopping base by over 1.5 million square feet. He’s been active on various community boards including the Glenwood Autism Center, the YMCA of Alabaster, Leadership Shelby County and Easter Seals of Alabama.

Ward is chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, chairman of the Senate Energy Committee and chairman of the Joint Oversight Committee for State Energy Policy. He also serves on the State General Fund Budget Committee, Business and Labor Committee and Senate Health Committee. In the closing days of 2012, he helped pass historic tort reform legislation that brought AirBus to Mobile.

Ward and his wife, Julie, are parents of a daughter. They attend the First United Methodist Church of Alabaster.
