HELENA–Helena Middle School girls now have the opportunity to participate in a new extracurricular activity.

A majorette team was introduced to HMS last April in order to prepare girls for the high school level.

Lori Walley, sponsor of the HMS Majorette Team, organizes the practices and games and makes sure everything runs smoothly.

“I talked to the high school sponsor and we started the middle school team to lead them in that direction to prepare them for high school,” said Walley.

The majorette team is made up of seventh and eighth grade girls interested in learning choreography and then they perform at football and basketball games.

“There were several girls who were interested and wanted to try out for the team,” said Walley. “A couple of moms got it together and went and talked to the principal and got it approved.”

The girls completed their first season cheering for football and basketball.

The girls have a state competition upcoming in March they are currently preparing for.
