Thompson wins Warrior Invitational

ALABASTER- Thompson High School played host to the Warrior Invitational on Jan. 24 and came out of the day as the overall leader in points, beating out second place Mountain Brook by 68 points. The invitational, which saw local schools Pelham and Spain Park visit, was littered with Thompson victors.

Cody Mealer of Thompson snagged first place in the 113-pound weight class, winning all of his matches by pin. Dominic Latona, 120-pound class, Trey Watson, 145-pound class, Nicholas Mobley, 182-pound class, Luke Hester, 195-pound class and TJ Rayam, 285-pound class, were all able to finish in first place in their respective weight classes. Combined, all six wrestlers scored 113.5 of Thompson’s 171. 5 points.

Spain Park’s Kevin McClure came in first in the 220-pound class with a decision win in the finals over Randy Hooks of Auburn High School. Leon Strong of Spain Park also came in first in the 152-pound weight class.

Giovanni Adan of Pelham was the high-scorer for the Panthers on the day, finishing second in the 182-pound class, falling to Mobely in the finals.

Thompson won the event with a final total point count of 171.5.
