COLUMBIANA- Tuesday, Feb. 2 was senior night at Shelby County High School as the Wildcats took on the Chilton County Tigers. Shelby County seniors, Justus Martin and Nick Youngblood were recognized before the start of the game. The duo has contributed to the varsity team since their freshmen and sophomore years. Both Youngblood and Martin’s final regular season home game would be a great one to remember as Shelby County dismantled Chilton County 69-35.

The first half couldn’t have gone any better for the Wildcats. Aided by unstoppable offense and aggressive defense Shelby County took a 25-4 lead into the second quarter. Shelby County never looked back as their up-tempo offense abled them to take a 43-17 lead into the half. Chilton County did show signs of life as an 8-3 run created a little momentum for them, but they were no match for the Wildcats.

The second half was much like the first half, as great defense and effective offense from Shelby County abled the Wildcats to take a 62-24 lead into a mostly uneventful fourth quarter.

Wildcat head coach Torry Brown took three of its five starters out, including Youngblood and Martin, to preserve the 69-35 victory. Sophomore guard/forward Brandon Green led the Wildcats with 23 points.

Shelby County will host the 5A area 8 tournament, and will take on Clay Central on Thursday, Feb. 5.
