COLUMBIANA–The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will host a Women’s Safety Course on Feb. 21. The class will focus on awareness and prevention while also giving participants the tools to address a dangerous situation if necessary.

This is a “hands on” class involving practice scenarios and some defensive tactics. The goal of the women’s safety class is to give females a better understanding of situational awareness and current safety issues with a focus on the prevention of threatening situations as well as how to survive during an assault or other dangerous event.

The one-day course is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. The course will be taught by deputies who are certified defensive tactics instructors.

Class size is limited and expected to fill quickly. The deadline for registration is Feb. 17.
