Harold “Sonny” Thompson, age 84, of Pea Ridge, passed away at his home on Friday, Feb. 6.
He was a deacon and faithful member of Christian Mission Church. He was a retired coal miner and known throughout the community for sharing crops from his gardens. He was devoted to his family and loved them dearly.
Survivors include daughters, Sandra Foster (Ralph), Tricia Tibbs (Randle) and June Foster (Steve); son, Freddie Thompson (Anita); grandchildren Dora Newell (Jason) and Jacob Thompson; great-granddaughter, Eliza Newell; brother, Charles Thompson; sister-in-law, Sue Putman (Jerry); and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley. She led him to Christ and together they raised their children in church, teaching them the importance of the Lord always being the center of their lives.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jason Foster; sisters, Mildred Strubble, Ruby Pratt, Mae Stephens and Shirley Rutherford; brother, Cecil Thompson.
The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to Darlene, Debra, Carol, and all the Clanton Alacare staff for care of their Daddy. Also, to Roz and Leigh, who were his special caregivers.
His funeral service will be Monday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery, Pea Ridge.
