HELENA–Plans for the inaugural Helena Founder’s Day have been set and anyone interested in reminiscing on how the city of Helena got its name may come out on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate.

Founder’s Day is presented by the Helena Historic Preservation Committee to celebrate the 150 years of Helena history and how Helena got its name.

The event will be held at the Amphitheater Park in Old Town Helena, and is an event designed to celebrate the naming of Helena, raise funds for the Helena Museum and bring awareness to the city’s rich history.

If anyone is interested in being a vendor for the Founder’s Day event, applications are available on the Helena Historical Preservation Committee’s Facebook page.

Charity Miller, one of the seven members on the Helena Historical Preservation Committee said much planning has gone into making the day special, and said there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

“Booths will be set up and it will be like an old-fashioned trade day,” said Miller. “If you are a vendor looking to sell something the cost is $40. If you are a vendor and give a door prize, the cost will be $30. Food trucks can apply as well.”

The plans to make Helena Founder’s Day possible were in the works for the past year and a half until April 18 was agreed upon.

Anyone will be welcome to join in on the celebration, as there will be bands, folk music and a play depicting how the city of Helena got its name.

“I’m most excited to see the day get here,” added Miller. “Just to see everyone show up and come out and have a good time and let everyone see it can be an annual event.”

There will also be folk art, woodworking, metalworking and Helena students will be recognized for winning an art or essay contest.
