FROM STAFF REPORTS

COLUMBIANA–Columbiana Middle School held its first ever Math and Reading Night on Thursday, Feb. 19. Those who attended expressed an appreciation to see first-hand implementation of the state’s commitment to raise academic expectations and classroom achievement.

“The Alabama College and Career Ready Standards are much more rigorous than previous standards and Columbiana Middle School teachers are working hard to ensure that students are learning the necessary knowledge and skills needed at each grade level,” said CMS principal Dr. Kerry Rush.

Parents and students participated in a number of reading and math activities such as fact fluency for fractions and reading comprehension of complex text. Rush said plans to schedule additional family-oriented events have already begun at Columbiana Middle.
