UM, school systems delaying start on Feb. 24

The Shelby County, Alabaster, Pelham and Hoover school systems will delay the start of the school day by two hours on Tuesday, Feb. 24, due to the threat of severe winter weather.

School buses will run two hours later than normal, and breakfast will not be served. Schools will operate on a normal schedule after the delayed start.

Indian Springs School also will delay the start of school by two hours.

The University of Montevallo will close at 8 p.m. on Feb. 23, and will open at 11 a.m. on Feb. 24. This includes the Pelham location and Carmichael Library.

UM’s Anna Irvin Cafeteria will remain open for regular hours during this time.

As of Feb. 23, the National Weather Service in Calera was forecasting possible ice accumulations in Shelby County and throughout central Alabama on the morning of Feb. 24. The NWS also was forecasting as much as 2 inches of snow accumulation in central Alabama on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
