Next week, the Alabama Legislature will begin our 2015 session. On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, we’ll start meeting at the Alabama State House in Montgomery every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for approximately three and a half months. (There is no doubt in my mind that this Legislative Session will be extraordinary).
I mean, just think about it, there are 140 Alabama legislators who were recently elected to take care of the people of the state of Alabama. We all proudly stood with our hands on a Bible and swore an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the state of Alabama. Now, the parties and parades are over and we have a total of 105 days to find a way to balance a general fund budget that’s estimated to be roughly $265 million in the red. (Can you imagine knowing that you are going to have a bill delivered to your house that shows you owe $265 million more than you know you’re going to have in the bank?)
As a Christian, there is nothing better than being able to stand up and be identified as a Christian by the way you act. Are we all talk, or can we really stand in the heat and get the job done? (In the Alabama Legislature, I believe we’re just about to find out).
I believe God has placed a group of men and women in the Alabama legislature that will stand tall and be identified as “Unashamed Christians.”  So, will Alabama’s future see more taxes, or more accountability?
It should be interesting.
Luke 16:13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
