Elene S. Limbaugh
Chelsea

Elene S. Limbaugh, 83, of Chelsea, passed from this life on Thursday, Feb. 26, after a brief illness. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
Born in Clay County, Ala., Elene was raised on a farm. At age twelve, she was the first person baptized in the outdoor, concrete baptismal pool at Mellow Valley Baptist Church in Cragford. She graduated from Mellow Valley High School with a perfect attendance record, then moved away and graduated from Birmingham Business College. Her first job was at the original Forbes Piano Company, and she then worked for several insurance companies. Lastly, she was an Administrative Assistant at the American Lung Association, where she retired after ten years of service.
Elene met the love of her life at Lowe’s Skating Rink, and they married after six months of dating. After several years, she and Ralph decided they didn’t like city life, and moved to Shelby County. They joined Mt. Signal Baptist Church while expecting their first child, and raised all three of their children in that church. In the early years, she taught children in weekly Sunday School, summer Bible School, and printed the church bulletins. Ralph led the singing for many years. After twenty-one faithful years, they moved their membership to Liberty Baptist Church, which Ralph and their son helped build, and where she was a member of Widow’s Might.
Mrs. Limbaugh enjoyed many camping and fishing trips across the country with her husband and children, two trips to Alaska with her husband, and a recent trip to Savannah with her daughters. Her hobbies were reading, watching wildlife, playing cards, attending the Chelsea Senior Center, going to the YMCA, watching Alabama football, and eating-out with friends after church on Sundays.
Elene was predeceased by her husband of fifty-six years, Ralph Limbaugh; parents, Ben and Ola (Roughton) Stansell; sister, Annie Mae Knight; and brother, Charles Stansell.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Limbaugh; son, Al Limbaugh and wife Stephanie; daughter, Kristi Dobbs and husband Marvin; grandsons, Stephen Limbaugh and wife Brittany, Cody L. Smith and Thomas Limbaugh; sister, Nelda Spicer and husband John; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Service will be held at Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea on Sunday, March 1 at 3 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Bolton Funeral Home of Columbiana is directing.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund.
