Cescilia Llorente Fowler’s watercolor piece titled “Lost Roman Wine” was chosen Best of Show at the 2014 SCAC Juried Art Exhibit.

The Shelby County Arts Council welcomes her back this year for her solo exhibit opening March 6 from 6-8 p.m.

At a young age, Cescilia began her training under her mother, Maria De Lourdes Valdés González, a painter from Mexico City who motivated and encouraged her daughter throughout her development as an artist.

Cescilia continued to cultivate her technique and thrive as an artist, experimenting with diverse materials.

Since then, this accomplished artist has created more than 800 works using various techniques, sold her art in many countries, designed and painted scenes for stage plays and taught adult and children’s art classes.

Recently, she was awarded the People’s Choice Award in 2013 and the Watercolor Society of Alabama Member’s Showcase and Merit Award in 2014.

Much of Cescilia’s work is in watercolor with the use of other agents.

Nita Risher McGlawn, artist and juror of the 2014 Juried Art Exhibit, described her winning piece as “fluid transcendence.”

She appreciated the experimental processes Cescilia used with the medium.

“The watercolor ‘blooms’ that many watercolorists attempt to avoid,” Nita explained, “were seemingly embraced by the artist and used to create an underwater, somewhat ethereal scene. The possibilities are endless for the viewer as they are transported to an underwater discovery.”

Come enjoy more of Cescilia’s stunning work at this exhibit, which will remain open through March 27. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday–Thursday.
