Pelham competes in 2015 Outdoor Five Team Battle Royale

MOUNTAIN BROOK – On Friday, Feb. 27 both the Pelham boys and girls track team participated in the Outdoor Five Team Battle Royale held at the Mountain Brook High School track and field complex. Both teams had a number of athletes place at the meet.

For the girls, Junior Mary Grace Strozier, fresh off her three individual indoor state medals in the 3,200-meter run, the 1,600-meter run and the 800-meter run on Feb. 6, was one of two Pelham athletes to finish first in their respective events, winning the 1,000-meter run. Jordan Allison was the other first-place finisher, beating out teammate Erin Hines in the 200-meter hurdles. The Lady Panthers had a total of six second-place finishers on the day. Erykah Hall finished second in the 150-meter dash, Katie Grace Terry finished second in the 500-meter run, Alex Ladewig finished second in the pole vault, freshman Ayala Seaborn finished second in the discuss throw and freshman Emorie Long finished second in the javelin to go along with Hines’ second-place finish in the 200-meter hurdles.

Seaborn also finished third in the shot put, Hines finished tied for third in the high jump, Melanie Taylor finished fourth in the high jump, Lesya Lackey finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run, Emma Hammett finished fifth in the 500-meter run and the Pelham 4×300-meter relay team finished third on the day to round out the scoring for the Lady Panthers, who finished in third place with 71.50 points.

The boys saw less scorers than the girls, and were highlighted by a second-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 44.51, which was just .18 seconds off the leader. Mason Tittle placed third in the javelin throw and Jacob Bryant placed fifth in the 300-meter run to round out the scoring for the boys team. Pelham finished fourth with 11 total points on the day.
