Sam Dickinson Adkins, age 90, of Montevallo, died Saturday, March 7.
He served in the US Navy during WWII and Korean War. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Alabama and retired from US Steel in 1984.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Saxon Nix Adkins, and brother, Col. Walter Adkins.
He is survived by his daughters, Delores Adkins of Montevallo and Sammie Cockrell (Bill) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Kathy Hudspeth (James), Sarah Wheaton (Evan), Scott McCreery, John Cockrell (Jordan), David Cockrell and Steven Cockrell; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 10 at 11 a.m. at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Father John Wesley will officiate and burial will be at Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera.
