COLUMBIANA–A resolution passed on Monday, March 9, at the Shelby County Commission Meeting approving the relocation of the current Sheriff’s Office substation located at Heardmont Park to a more desirable location off of U.S. 280.

The new location will be in a building known as Greystone Park Retail on 5511 U.S. 280 Suite 117 in Birmingham.

“We serve a lot of citizens in the northeast area of the county and we felt like moving the north station from almost in the Pelham/Indian Springs area over to 280 would better serve the citizens,” Sheriff John Samaniego said while addressing the commission Monday morning.

The proposed lease agreement is between Kessler Greystone, LLC and the Sheriff’s Office.

The main reason for the move was to better serve the citizens and Shelby County overall.

“Its just time to move where we can deliver services to the citizens and I really appreciate the Commission joining as a partner with me on this effort and I hope this is one of many,” said Samaniego.

The landlord has agreed to an allowance of up to $8,000 for the build out and related equipment required for the leased space to be occupied according to the resolution document.
