HOOVER – In an early season that has been marked more by the lack of tennis than actual tennis, the Briarwood boys tennis team secured a win over Indian Springs by a final of 6-3 in this rain-soaked first month of play.

The Lions used a strong showing from the bottom of their lineup to help them secure the victory. After dropping the first and second courts in singles, the players on courts three through six were able to win their respective matches to give Briarwood a 4-2 advantage.

The second and third doubles courts provided the win and spare to close out the 6-3 match.

Bennett Davis won the third court, David Salchert won the fourth court, Christian Ragsdale won the fifth court and Reed Hodges won court six.

In doubles play, the combination of Oaks and Hodges won the second court, while Salchert and Ragsdale won court three.

The Lions have also had to deal with the loss of two of their top four players in the last three weeks, most notable defending 5A State Champion on the second court, Thomas Collier, who injured his ankle in a tournament last week at Hill Crest High School.  He is expected to be back in the line up soon.
