Fred Allen Sandlin, Sr. passed away Friday, March 13.
He was born April 28, 1925, in Danville. He graduated from Morgan County High School in 1944, and went on to attend Troy University. He was active in the First Baptist Church of Alabaster from its beginnings until 2010, when he was no longer able to attend. He served in the US Air Force reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired from Drennan Motor Company (Tom Williams Buick) after 45 years of service. He also owned two businesses, one in Oneonta and Fred’s Sharp N Tool Service until 2010 when he could no longer work.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Grace (Strahan) Sandlin; by his son, Fred Allen Sandlin, Jr.; two brothers, William C. Sandlin and James D. Sandlin; and his parents, Fred P. and Cora B. Sandlin.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Hope (Nick); grandchildren, Chris Hope and Carissa Hope; great granddaughter, Haley Hope; a brother, Morris Sandlin; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17 at 11 a.m. in the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Mike Byars officiating.
Pallbearers will be Chris Reed, Jeff Bell, Kenneth Willis, Scott Chancey, Boyd Chancey and Jason Sandlin.
