VESTAVIA HILLS – Six county schools competed and scored points in the King of the Mountain meet at Vestavia Hills High School on March 14, those being Thompson, Oak Mountain, Helena, Chelsea, Westminster at Oak Mountain and Briarwood. Thompson was the county winner on the day, finishing second to Hoover in both the boys and the girls meets.

Azariah Jackson finished third in the 200-meter dash for the Lady Warriors, Kiera Miniex finished third in the 400-meter dash, Rebecca Harrell finished second in the 300-meter hurdles, the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams finished third, Jamilia Evans finished third in the triple jump and Sarah Owen finished third in the discuss throw to round out the top-three finishing athletes for Thompson.

Quiana Moore of Helena finished eighth in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash while Claire Vaughn finished eighth in the 3200-meter run. Sarah Kate Lipperd of Westminster finished eighth in the 400-meter dash while Maddie Hoaglund finished seventh in the 1600-meter run. Courtney Ivy of Chelsea finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles. The Briarwood 4×100-meter relay team finished fifth while the Helenea 4×100 team finished eighth. Oak Mountain finished sixth in the 4×400 meter relay. Mallory Kent and Ashley Musachia finished sixth and seventh respectively in the high jump for Briarwood.

On the boys side of competition, Thompson once again highlighted the county athletes, bringing home a number of top-three finishers. Patrick Haywood came in second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash, beating out Jaquan Taylor and Alex Elam in both events. Emmanuel Tait was the top athlete of the tournament, however, winning both the 110-meter hurdles and the 200-meter hurdles, each by more than a second. Thompson also came in second to Hoover in both the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays. Craig Clark also placed third in the 110s, while Viktor Turek rounded out the top three scorers for Thompson, coming in third in the discuss throw.

The Helena 4×800-meter relay team placed third on the day, beating fourth-place Tuscaloosa County by 21 seconds. Wiley Boone of Westminster won the long jump with a jump of 6.45 meters to round out the top three finishers for the boys meet.
