ALABASTER – The Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham wants to know how you imagine Alabaster’s future, and is launching a creative campaign to collect your ideas.

As part of its partnership with the city to update Alabaster’s 2005 master plan, the Regional Planning Commission recently launched the “I imagine Alabaster” campaign.

Through the campaign, Alabaster residents and business owners can download and print the “I imagine Alabaster” card and use it to write down their dreams for the city’s future.

“Tell us what you’d like to see,” read a Regional Planning Commission email. “Take a photo of yourself holding the “I imagine Alabaster” card, and share it with us! It’s that simple!

“Visit the places in Alabaster where you want to see improvements made or something new built,” the email read. “Take a selfie and with the “I Imagine Alabaster” card, send it our way!”

After filling out the card, which is available at Alabasterforward.com/i-imagine-alabaster.html, participants can email their photos to Planning Commission representative Hunter Garrison at Hgarrison@rpcgb.org.

The campaign is the latest step in the city’s comprehensive planning process, the public portion of which kicked off during a March 10 forum at Alabaster City Hall.

During the forum, about 50 residents and business owners said they would like to see items such as more bike lanes, mixed-use commercial buildings and a new library.

Residents also lobbied for a more pedestrian-friendly city layout, a dedicated area for food trucks, a large indoor event complex and more access to the city’s athletic fields.

“Thanks to everyone who made it to our open house on March 10,” read the RPC email. “The turnout was great and we at RPCGB are excited to continue working in such a vibrant and plugged in community.”

On April 27 and April 30 the city and RPC will host an open design studio at Alabaster City Hall to “reimagine the possibilities” for the city’s Medical Mile and Siluria Mill District. The April 27 event will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the April 30 meetings will begin at 1:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
