PELHAM- Fun for the whole family. That is what Valley Elementary PTO members and Deberah Miller, the principal of the school, had in mind when deciding to hold their first Spring Fling on March 20.

Miller, who has been in elementary administration for four years, along with the new PTO board, decided to try something new and provide fun for not only the children, but for their parents as well.

“Our PTO sponsored and put on the Spring Fling and members are very beneficial in giving back to the school. They use funds to give back to the teachers and the funds go directly to the students,” Miller said about the new PTO board.

In the past, Valley Elementary has hosted fall festivals that were not on site at the school. This year, the board members decided to bring the fun closer to home.

“This is the first year the event has been on-site,” Miller said.

The Spring Fling featured seven different bouncy houses, complete with obstacle courses, several amusement park rides and a vendor’s room with local businesses selling jewelry, clothing, health care products and much more. Carnival style foods such as popcorn, cotton candy, hamburgers and hotdogs, were available as well.

Several students and parents came out to the inaugural event Friday evening, and Miller said she is thankful for all of the support from not just the school, but from the community as well.

“This is a big undertaking, an event like this, and the community, teachers and parents are doing it for our children,” Miller said.
