The Helena Fire Explorers is an organization designed for teenager’s ages 14-20 that are interested in pursing a career in fire service.

Recently, the Helena Fire Explorers team took part in a competition in Coweta County, Georgia where they received a couple different awards in various competitions.

The competitions are based off different firefighting or E.M.S. techniques and different scenarios are given for teams to complete.

The teams practice and drill for the competitions and then they prepare for the competitions.

In the competitions in Georgia, the Helena Fire Explorers received first place honors for the bucket brigade, Pittsburgh drill and the obstacle course competitions.

One of the Helena Explorers also placed third in an individual competition called the quick dress out of 20 or more other explorers who were competing.

“We have always been very proud of our explorers by the way they represent not only the Helena Fire Department, but also the City of Helena as a whole,” said Helena Fire Chief John Wilder. “Our primary goal as advisor’s is to not only create the next generation of firefighters, but to show guidance and mentorship to produce hard-working trustworthy citizens that love to support their community.”

Post 2060 is looking to do a lot of activities this summer focused on fire prevention and public safety.

The Helena Fire Explorers are also trying to set up education booths at Helena First Fridays events and the Saturday Farmer’s Markets.
