ALABASTER – Students in the Alabaster City School System will return to class on Aug. 13, and will end the year on May 26, 2016, according to a school calendar recently approved by the city’s Board of Education.

The calendar includes 86 class days during the first semester of the school year, and includes 94 days during the spring 2016 semester.

Students’ first day of class will be on Aug. 13, and the first semester will end at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18. Christmas break will be from Dec. 21 until Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016. Students will end the school year at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016.

Spring break will be from March 28-April 1, 2016, and Thompson High School’s graduation ceremony will be on Tuesday, May 24.

Students will be out of school on Sept. 7 for Labor Day, Oct. 12 for a teacher workday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and from Nov. 25-27 for the Thanksgiving holidays.

During the second semester, students will be out of school on Jan. 18, 2016 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on Feb. 15, 2016, for Presidents’ Day and on March 14, 2016, for a teacher workday.

The calendar has built in inclement weather makeup days, if necessary, on Feb. 15, 2016, and April 22, 2016.

The first grading period will end on Oct. 9, and grades will be sent home on Oct. 16. The second grading period will end on Dec. 18, and grades will be sent home on Jan. 8, 2016.

The final two grading periods will end on March 11, 2016, with grades sent home on March 18, and on May 26, 2016, with grades sent home the same day.
