COLUMBIANA–An 18-year-old Montevallo man was arrested for trafficking synthetic drugs, possession of an illegal firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to arrest warrants.

The Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force arrested Daymon Shakur Smith, who lists an address on DuBose Drive in Montevallo, on March 31 on a Class A felony charge, a Class C felony charge and a Class A misdemeanor charge.

According to Smith’s arrest warrant, the incident took place on March 30, when Smith allegedly possessed 56 grams or more of synthetic marijuana and “knowingly sold, manufactured, delivered, or brought it into the state.” Smith also allegedly unlawfully possessed a 380 caliber Cobra ENR with the “manufactures number or other mark or identification changed, altered, removed or obliterated.”

Smith allegedly possessed a “hand grenade grinder with the intent to use,” according to his arrest warrant.

Smith remains in the Shelby County Jail on a $111,000 bond as of April 2.

Trafficking is a Class A felony and carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison. Possession of an illegal firearm is a Class C felony and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and possession of drug paraphernalia is a Class A misdemeanor and carries a sentence of no more than a year in prison.
