HOOVER–The Helena Huskies baseball team took on the Oak Mountain Eagles on Thursday, April 2, at the Spain Park City Fields where Oak Mountain players Graham Hackbarth and Ethan Holsembeck combined for three hits and three RBIs to help give Oak Mountain an 8-4 victory.

Due to schools being out for spring break, first pitch was thrown out at 9 a.m., but that didn’t stop Helena from getting on the board early.

Helena scored in the top of the first inning as Riley Davis began the inning with a single. An error then moved Davis from first to second where he was brought home by Jake Busby on an RBI single giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

The lead would be short lived however, as Oak Mountain rallied for a four-run inning in the bottom of the second inning.

With the bases loaded, Oak Mountain scored their first run of the game when Helena pitcher Holden Hawkins walked Brandon Whitaker to bring in the first run. The next two runs were scored on an error giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead. The final run of the inning was scored when Holsembeck grounded out scoring Chase Stiffler from third to put the Eagles up 4-1.

Helena would come back to tie the game 4-4 in the fourth inning, but Oak Mountain scored four runs over the next two innings to win 8-4.

The winning pitcher was Oak Mountain’s Michael Flack after pitching two and one/third innings of relief and allowing no runs.

The Huskies could not muster enough runs despite outhitting the Eagles eight to five in the game.
