Doris “Dee” Chism Lien

Doris “Dee” Chism Lien, age 86, passed on Friday, April 3.
A resident of Montevallo, Dee was a graduate of Alabama College with a degree in Music. She began her career teaching elementary school in North Dakota. During this time she met her husband, Glenn H. Lien (deceased). Upon moving to Alabama she taught piano lessons and was later the choral and band director at Montevallo High School. Afterward she became a medical transcriptionist at Shelby County Hospital then worked as the Quality Assurance Coordinator at Bessemer Caraway Hospital.
A longtime member of First United Methodist Church, she is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Ludwig and Clarece Boothe (Bill); daughter, Judy Santa Cruz; son, Krist Lien (Kim); grandchildren, Keaton Santa Cruz, Ashley Santa Cruz Foster (Ryan), Chism Lien, and Larsen Lien.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at First United Church in Montevallo. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A committal service will be held at Alabama National Cemetery at 11:45 a.m.
