Robert Ottis Bean passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on April 1. He spent the last several days of his life surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Robert Ottis Bean served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin. He owned and operated Ottis Bean’s Barbershop on Middle St. in Montevallo from 1947 to 2006.
He was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Audrey Bean; his loving son, Robert O. (Bobby) Bean, Jr. (Diana), and his sister, Paula Ellison of Tennessee.
He is survived by his brother, James (Buck) Olin Bean; his daughter, Brenda Joyce Smitherman and her husband Ronald Smitherman, of Montevallo; his grandson, John Bean; his granddaughters, Diane Smitherman Brown, Vicki Smitherman Graeser, Kathy Smitherman Miller, and Aimee Bean Hayes; his great-grandson Sean Bean; his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Smitherman Rivera; and his great-great twin grandsons, Ronald Edward Rivera and Robert Oscar Rivera.
The last eight years of his life were spent at Ridgeview Assisted Living and Meadowbrook Rehab with many loving friends including a very special friend, Hazel Ray.
Viewing services will be held on Monday, April 6 from 1-3 p.m. at Rocko’s Funeral Home on Hwy 25 in Montevallo with a military graveside service following at Montevallo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
