Robert Ot­tis Bean passed away peace­fully at the age of 98 on April 1. He spent the last several days of his life surrounded by his loving fam­ily and friends.
Robert Ottis Bean served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the bat­tleship U.S.S. Wisconsin. He owned and operated Ottis Bean’s Barbershop on Middle St. in Montevallo from 1947 to 2006.
He was predeceased by his beautiful wife, Audrey Bean; his loving son, Rob­ert O. (Bobby) Bean, Jr. (Diana), and his sister, Paula Ellison of Tennessee.
He is survived by his brother, James (Buck) Olin Bean; his daughter, Brenda Joyce Smitherman and her husband Ronald Smitherman, of Montevallo; his grand­son, John Bean; his grand­daughters, Diane Smitherman Brown, Vicki Smitherman Graeser, Kathy Smitherman Miller, and Aimee Bean Hayes; his great-grand­son Sean Bean; his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Smi­therman Rivera; and his great-great twin grandsons, Ronald Edward Rivera and Robert Oscar Ri­vera.
The last eight years of his life were spent at Ridgeview Assisted Living and Mead­owbrook Rehab with many loving friends including a very special friend, Hazel Ray.
Viewing services will be held on Monday, April 6 from 1-3 p.m. at Rocko’s Funeral Home on Hwy 25 in Montevallo with a military graveside service following at Montevallo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
