COLUMBIANA – A 40-year-old former Alabaster man was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 10 counts of possession of child pornography on April 7, and is looking to move to Maryland after serving his sentence.

Steven Christopher Kelban, who lists an address in the 6200 block of Chesworth Road in Catonsville, Md., and previously listed an address on Independence Drive in Alabaster, pleaded guilty to the charges in front of Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves.

Through a plea agreement, Kelban will serve two years in the Alabama Penitentiary followed by five years of supervised probation. He received 560 days of jail credit for time served in the Shelby County Jail before entering his guilty plea.

Once released from prison, Kelban must register as a sex offender and complete a sex offender treatment program.

If approved by the state probation office, Kelban will be allowed to “leave Alabama to reside in Maryland with his family,” read the sentencing order.

A grand jury indicted Kelban on 10 felony counts of possession of child pornography on Feb. 27, 2014.

According to Kelban’s arrest warrant, he allegedly “did knowingly possess any obscene matter containing a visual depiction of a person under the age of 17 years of age engaged in any act of sado-machoistic abuse, sexual intercourse, sexual excitement, masturbation, genital nudity or other sexual conduct” on Aug. 30, 2013.

Kelban allegedly possessed sexually explicit webcam footage of an underage female, according to court documents.

Possession of child pornography is a Class C felony, according to Alabama law. Kelban could have faced up to 10 years in prison per charge.
