TUSCALOOSA – At a tournament on April 4 at the University of Alabama, class 4A No. 10 Calera won one out of three games to advance to 15-7 on the year.

Game 1. Guntersville 5 – Calera 2

Emily Sanders took the mound for Calera in the first game of the tournament and only lasted one inning, giving up four runs on four hits in her sole inning of work. Ashlynn Hamm came on in a relief effort and finished out the game, however the damage was already done. The Calera bats never got in a groove, and were only able to muster two runs on the day, both of which came in the bottom of the first inning.

Michaela Landrum, Shelby Wright, Sanders and Somer Roberson all combined for one hit in the 5-2 loss.

Game 2. Northside 6 – Calera 5

Northside scored five of its’ six runs in the first two innings of Calera’s second game of the day. The Lady Eagles fought back to tie the game at five runs apiece when Sanders scored from second base off a Nicole Harrelson single. With the game tied at 5-5, Northside scored one run in the fourth inning to take a slight one-run lead, and the Lady Eagles could not muster an answer in the bottom half of the inning, which resulted in a loss.

Charley Clark and Harrelson both registered two hits in the game to lead the way for Calera from the plate.

Game 3. Calera 6 – Pinson Valley 2

Calera ended the day on a positive note in a pitch-by-committee win over Pinson Valley. Sanders, Hamm, Alyssa Clark and Kiersten Gothard all took the mound for the Lady Eagles in the final matchup to secure the win. Sanders started the game and lasted two innings before being replaced by Hamm, Clark and Gothard in successive order, each of who threw one inning of work.

The Lady Eagles used a four-run second inning and a two-run third inning to build an insurmountable lead and get the win to end the tournament on a positive note. Harrelson led the way for Calera from the plate once more, as she went 2-for-2 with three RBIs.

Calera moved to 15-7 after the tournament.
