HELENA–Fresh off becoming the Class 5A Area 7 champions, the chance of a letdown in the first round of the playoffs was put to bed early as the Huskies defeated Ramsay 10-0 with 23 minutes left in the second half on Friday, April 24.

Helena’s fast and attacking style of play once again worked it’s magic as the Huskies put on an offensive clinic, scoring 10 goals and the mercy rule came into effect.

Helena head coach Zach Morgan knew it was his team’s first ever playoff game as a program and he wanted to make sure his team was focused and not looking ahead.

“It was the first time ever Helena had a playoff game and I wanted to make sure that they had the mindset to play like it’s your last game and come out and focus,” said Morgan. “I wanted to get it in their head that if they lose here they’re done.”

Helena saw multiple players score different goals and on a night where storms threatened the area, Helena’s offense turned out to be the biggest threat to the Ramsay Rams.

“I wanted our team to have the mindset that we could be playing the number one team or a middle of the pack team but we still have to go out there and play and not look ahead,” said Morgan.

With the win, the Huskies will now move on to face the Jemison Panthers in the second round of the playoffs.

Helena faced off against Jemison twice earlier in the season, defeating the Panthers 5-1 and 2-0 and will go for a third win on Tuesday, April 28.

“They might come out with a different game plan and we just need to focus and play our game,” said Morgan. “Just focus on the game we have in front of us and not look ahead.”
