Superheroes come to Columbiana Library

The Friends of the Columbiana Public Library are kicking off the Superhero Summer Program at the Columbiana library with a superhero program on Thursday, May 14 at 4 p.m.

Superhero boys ages 4 through third grade are invited to hear a story, make an airplane craft and enjoy super refreshments.

Wonder women girls are also invited; proper superhero attire welcome.

FOL members Peggy Wood and Laurie Edwards are planning the program, which kicks off the superhero summer reading program theme.

The superhero summer program kick-offs are divided into three groups: High, middle and grammar school ages.

The high school summer teen kick-off is Thursday, May 14 with a movie, pizza and drinks.

The middle school kick-off is Tuesday, May 19, with a movie, pizza and drinks.

The children’s kick-off is Wednesday, June 3 with Flow Circus starting at 1 p.m.

Three movies will be shown each week for grammar school children, middle school kids and high school teens: G movies for children every Monday beginning June 8 at 1 p.m.; PG movies for middle school kids every Tuesday beginning May 19 from 5-7 p.m.; and PG-13 movies for high school teens every Thursday beginning May 14 from 5-7 p.m.

Miss Jennie’s Storytime on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. will carry out the superhero theme in June and July with crafts and novelties given each week.

Themes and crafts are: June 2, Super Hero (DIY superhero mask); June 9, Hero in You (make buttons); June 16, Dad, My Hero (color dad a tie); June 23, Community Heroes (craft of police station); June 30, Thank a Hero (DIY American Flag); July 7, Thank a Firefighter (craft); July 14, Goliath the Fire House Horse, (make puppets out of paper bags); July 24, Animals Who Became Heroes (DIY animal masks); and July 31 Heroes of Sports (DIY torches).

Children will have a craft day every Friday beginning June 5 from 10-11 a.m.

Executive Director Tom Rary has planned a great summer at the Columbiana Library whatever age you are! Come and enjoy these free programs for all ages.
