Westminster boys, girls win 1A Montgomery Academy sectional meet

MONTGOMERY – The Westminster at Oak Mountain boys and girls track teams won the 1A meet at the AHSAA sectional track meet held at Montgomery Academy from April 24-25.

The sectionals, which took place all over the state from April 24-25, are used to determine the qualifiers for the state meets. The Lady Knights scored 251 points at the meet, 176 better than the second-place finisher, while the boys squad scored 252 points, 144 points better than second place.

The 1A leaderboard was peppered with Westminster athletes. The girls had a number of top-three finishers. Payton Metcalf finished second in the 100-meter dash, Claire Touliatos finished first in the 200-meter dash and second in the 400-meter dash while Sarah Kate Lipperd finished first in the 400-meter dash. Lipperd also finished third in the 800-meter run while Maddie Hoagland finished second in the same event. Hoagland also won the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run, while Camryn Neal finished third in the 1,600-meter run and second in the 3,200-meter run and Camilla Lemons finished third in the 3,200-meter run to give the Lady Knights the top-three finishers in the 3,200-meter run.

Metcalf and Touliatos finished first and second in the 100-meter hurdles, while Lipperd and Morgan White finished first and third in the 300-meter hurdles. Katie Croushorn and AnnElise Brookins finished first and second in the pole vault, Olivia Brookins finished third in the long jump, Ann Rebekah Richburg finished second in the triple jump while Lauren Murdock placed third in the triple jump and Abigail Mathis finished third in the javelin throw to round out all top three scorers for the girls.

The Knights also had a plethora of top-three finishers as well. Wiley Boone placed second in the 100-meter dash and third in the 200-meter dash, Jacob Carrell placed third in the 400-meter dash and won the 800-meter dash while Scott Landers placed third in the 800-meter dash as well. Landers, Carter Lemons and Cole Callahan finished first, second and third in the 1,600-meter run while Nathan Deen and Lemons finished first and second in the 3,200-meter run. Samuel Haskins and Pierce Moffett finished first and second in the 110-meter hurdles while Jacob Carrell and Moffett finished first and second in the 300-meter hurdles.

In the field events, Brock Shannon and Jacob Welch finished first and second in the high jump while John Lusk and Haskins finished first and second in the pole vault. Boone won the long jump and the triple jump as well for 30 individual points on the day and Haskins finished second in the triple jump to round out the top-three finishers for the Knight.
