HOOVER – A 24-year-old Maylene man was pronounced dead and a 27-year-old Montevallo man was transported to the hospital following an early morning May 5 vehicle crash on Interstate 65.

The wreck happened at 12:17 a.m. when a 2011 Volkswagen Golf being driven by the 27-year-old Montevallo man left the roadway, traveled into the median and struck the concrete base of an interstate sign. The crash happened on I-65 southbound just before the Cahaba River bridge.

Following the crash, the Montevallo man was transported to UAB Hospital with unknown injuries. The Maylene man, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen and was identified as Addison Connell by Hoover police, was pronounced dead on the scene by Hoover Fire Department.

As of May 5, the Hoover Police Department had not released the driver’s identity or condition at UAB Hospital.

Hoover police are still working to investigate the cause of the crash.
