HOOVER—Inverness Country Club is helping members freshen their wine collection for the summer. On Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m., the club is hosting a wine tasting, featuring seven summer wines.

Wines will be supplied by United-Johnson Brothers and a representative will be on hand to answer any questions about the wines.

Members will taste a Nino Franco rustico prosecco from Italy, a Danzante pino grigio from Italy, a Chilean Lapostolle sauvignon blanc and a French Belleruche rosé, and a pinot noir, chardonnay and Cabernet from Jackson Estates.

In addition to the tasting, ICC Executive Chef Alan Martin will prepare light hors d’oeuvres from the tavern’s new summer menu to compliment the wine selection: Fried green tomatoes with a spicy remouladé sauce and peach relish; smoked salmon pizza with shaved red onions, capers and dill cream; and a pork press sandwich with roast pork and ham topped with Swiss cheese, mustard and pickles.

The club holds 10 wine tastings each year. The evenings are entertaining, informative and social, and members “make a party out of it,” ICC Service Director Dennis Wingfield said.

“Everyone can pick up a list of the wines, they can order what they would like to add to their collection (at the club) or take home,” Wingfield said.

Along with the selection of summer wines, the May 14 tasting will have a festive theme, Wingfield explained. Members are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts, and the member with the most festive shirt will win Sunday brunch for two.

The wine tasting is free to ICC Vineyard Club members and $15 for non-Vineyard Club members. For more information or to reserve a spot, call 991-8608.
