ALABASTER – The Alabaster City School System has finalized the dates for its 2015 summer feeding program, which provides free meals to children 18 and younger and to adults for a small fee.

This will mark the second summer the school system is offering the program, which will offer free breakfasts and lunches to children and adults.

The program will be held at Meadow View Elementary School beginning on Tuesday, May 26, and will run through July 17. MVES is located at 2800 Smokey Road in Alabaster.

Breakfast will be offered each weekday from 7-8:30 a.m., and lunch will be held each weekday from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All children participating in ACS summer camps will also be able to participate in the summer feeding program.

For those older than 18, breakfast will be available for $2 per person and lunch will be available for $4 per person. The program is open to everyone in the community.

The program is completely paid for through federal U.S. Department of Agriculture funds, and ACS recently received notification it will be able to offer the program each summer through the next few years.

“The program was created to ensure that children receive nutritious meals during summer vacation when they do not have access to school breakfast and lunch,” Alabaster City Schools Child Nutrition Program Director Heather McDermott wrote in an email.

Those with questions about the program should call McDermott at 663-8460.
