HELENA–Landscape Company Alabama Turf Works has been in business since June 2013 and has seen rapid growth over the last two years. The company will soon be moving to Helena to open a landscape supply store and shop.

Some of the services Alabama Turf Works offers are complete commercial and residential lawn maintenance, pine straw and mulch installation, spring/fall clean-up, landscape installation, parking lot sweeping and free estimates.

The company started out of a house in Helena and current owners Angelo Petite, Chris Williamson and Nick Anglin began the landscape work as a part-time job to make money on the side, but now the company has grown to 25 employees and all three now work full-time.

All three guys live in Helena and they originally wanted to open a store in Helena but nothing was available until a spot at 5657 Helena Road opened up.

“We found this place over on Helena Road and we actually move into it this week,” said Williamson. “It’s not going to be open to the public yet for probably another month but once that place opens it will be a landscape supply store.”

The supply store plans to sell sod, pine straw, mulch, sand and other bulk items.

Currently the company services the majority of Shelby County and Jasper and they want to keep expanding in the future by continuing a high level of service and customer satisfaction.

“I want us to be a brand name in Helena,” said Williamson. “When you think of a cookie you think of Oreo typically and even if you buy an off-brand Oreo you still call it an Oreo. If somebody in Helena is thinking about landscaping I just want us to brand our name.”

Alabama Turf Works has relied mostly on word of mouth to get the majority of their business but another reason is the way they treat their clients and Petite described the importance of having a high level of service.

“Just making sure your people are taken care of and making sure your customers or clients are happy,” said Petite. “It can make you or break you as far as people and your service.”
