ALABASTER – Local teens will have a chance to enjoy the summer weather while catching some youth-oriented movies at Veterans Park over the next few months.

The Alabaster Teen Council recently worked with Mayor Marty Handlon to organize the city’s first teen movie nights, which will begin on Tuesday, June 9.

“We met with them and asked ‘What would you like to do?’” Handlon said of the Teen Council. “We had talked about doing it every week, but we decided to do it every other week instead.”

The movies will be shown in the outfield of baseball field No. 1 at Veterans Park, which is off Alabama 119 south. All movies will begin at 8 p.m.

During the movies, the park will open its concession stands and offer items such as popcorn and nachos. All proceeds raised through concession sales will be used to help fund the second-annual TeenFest at Municipal Park at the end of the summer, Handlon said.

The following movies will be shown on the following Tuesdays:

June 9 – Divergent
June 23 – Pitch Perfect
July 7 – TBA
July 21 – Spare Parts
Aug. 4 – When the Game Stands Tall
