HELENA–Helena’s second annual Clean Up and Clean Out Day was once again a big success as bin after bin of trash was filled and a total of 17.82 tons of trash was collected at the Helena Sports Complex on Saturday, May 30.

Residents of Helena had the opportunity to bring any unwanted trash or electronics not be picked up by regular waste to the sports complex from 8 a.m. to noon and in just a four hour window, tons of trash was collected.

The free waste disposal was intended for items such as small kitchen appliances with plugs, electronic devices and more.

Dumpsters were provided by Republic Services and were available for residents to dispose of the things that could not go in regular household garbage.

“I’m glad we could help out residents get rid of all that unwanted junk,” said Helena Mayor Mark Hall.

Technical Knock Out of Birmingham was also at the clean up day to take electronic devices that needed to be disposed of.

The 17.82 tons of trash did not even include the recycled electronics taken at the event by Technical Knock Out.

The city encouraged residents to take advantage of the free clean up day and to haul all of the old junk that might’ve been accumulated over the years to the sports complex.

Republic Services helped sponsor the event and city staff was there to help assist in the clean up that was free to Helena residents.
