Mr. Lawrence Bearden Clark, of Wilsonville, age 79, passed away Wednesday, June 10 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Louis Skipper officiating. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitiation services will be Friday, June 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nancy Woolley Clark; daughter, Dr. Shirley Clark; son, John Lawrence Clark; daughter-in-law, Lisa Hummel; and grandsons, Isaac Hummel Clark and Zachary Hummel Clark.
Mr. Clark was born on December 15, 1935 in Birmingham to Cortez Brown Clark and Willadean Bearden Clark.
He is a 1953 Graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. He attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., and received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Auburn University, formally known as Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1959. While at Auburn University, he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, Kappa Chapter. He received his master of science degree in civil engineering from Auburn University in 1960 and his master of business administration from the University of South Alabama. In 2009, he was inducted into the Golden Eagles at Auburn University.
He worked as a paperboy for the Birmingham Post-Herald. During college, he worked for the Southern Railroad. He was the sanitary engineer for the C&O Railroad, as a civil engineer for several companies, and as manager for contract administration and project management at Washington University in St. Louis. He retired as director of Facilities Planning and Construction from Mansfield University, Mansfield, Pa.
He was a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, krewe member of the Mystics of Time Organization in Mobile, and member of the Mobile Jaycees. He won the 1969 Key Man Award and served as the district vice-president and national director from 1971-1972. He was member of the Rotary Club in Mansfield, Pa., where he served as president. He was also a member of the Rotary Club in St. Louis and Columbiana. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Columbiana, member of the vestry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Wellsboro, Pa., and retired treasurer at St. Mary’s Church in Childersburg. He also volunteered and played Santa Claus at Tioga Central Railroad in Wellsboro, Pa., and volunterred at the Heart of Dixie Railroad in Calera.
