COLUMBIANA – The Shelby County Arts Council is the recipient of a three-year operating grant from The Daniel Foundation of Alabama.

The Daniel Foundation of Alabama’s mission is “to strengthen communities within Alabama and improve the quality of life for citizens from all regions of Alabama. The foundation recognizes that a thriving arts community contributes immeasurably to the quality of life in Birmingham and Alabama,” according to a press release.

“It’s a tremendous honor to have The Daniel Foundation of Alabama believing in and supporting the Shelby County Arts Council,” Bruce Andrews, executive director, wrote in the release. “With this additional funding, we are able to continue and grow our outreach programs and art offerings in Shelby County. These include art classes at the Shelby County Juvenile Detention Center, music workshops taught by professional musicians in area schools, and Writing our Stories, a 12-week creative writing program for seventh grade students.”

In addition to outreach programs, the SCAC has a 99-seat Black Box theatre, a working art gallery, art classes in painting, drawing, photography and pottery, and voice and guitar lessons.
