Sawyer has been practicing in Sylacauga since November 2008. She earned her undergraduate degree from Samford University and attended medical school and completed her internship and residency at the University of South Alabama in Mobile.

Moore has been practicing pediatrics in Sylacauga since January 2013. She is also a registered dietitian.

Epperson has 10 years of experience in labor and delivery and pediatrics. She has been with Pathway since October 2012.

“The whole reason that we started this practice is we wanted to provide the best care we possibly could to our patients,” Moore said. “We do a lot of ADHD, and we are very breastfeeding friendly. We really see that as an important factor. We will do everything we can to work with the moms to take that as far as they want to go.”

Another unique service Pathway provides is medical-grade ear piercing for children.

“Registered nurses do that,” Epperson said. “All of our products have zero nickel.”

In March, the practice went from five to 22 staff members total, Epperson said, adding, “We’ve done so much in this short amount of time.”

The foundation of Pathway Pediatrics – and the meaning behind its name – lies in the co-owners’ Christian faith.

“Pathway” refers to Proverbs 22:6 in the Bible: “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it” (New Living Translation).

“That’s our mission in life – to direct our kids down the right path,” Epperson said. “Just to be the light they need for wellbeing. We feel like we’re doing his (God’s) work.”

The clinic’s logo bears child footprints on the ‘y’ of “Pathway” leading back to the ‘t,’ which is a cross.

“He (God) has really orchestrated it all,” Sawyer said of the clinic.

“He’s really touched every part of this practice,” Moore said. “We’re very proud of the fact we can attribute that all to God because we would never be able to do this without him. We’re excited to say he’s been there for us with every hurdle. We accept folks from all walks of life, but we are not ashamed to say where our roots are either.”

The Chelsea Business Alliance will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at Pathway Pediatrics on Thursday, July 16 at 11 a.m.

The Chelsea clinic is open six days a week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.
