COLUMBIANA – A 34-year-old Alabaster woman whose baby allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine, opiates, methadone and PCP has been granted limited visitation with the child, according to Shelby County Circuit Court documents.

On July 11, Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves granted a motion allowing Amanda June Reed to have limited contact with her child.

The Alabaster Police Department arrested Reed on April 30 and charged her with one felony count of chemical endangerment of a child. According to her arrest warrant, Reed allegedly gave birth at Shelby Baptist Medical Center to a child who tested positive for multiple controlled substances on Feb. 13.

Reed was released from the Shelby County Jail the same day she was arrested after posting a $15,000 bond.

One of the conditions of her bond was to have no contact with the child, but the condition was modified through an agreement between Reed’s attorney and the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office. The Shelby County Department of Human resources recommended Reed be permitted to have contact with the child, according to court documents.

Reed is set to appear at the Shelby County Courthouse in Columbiana on Oct. 14 at 8:30 a.m., according to court documents.

Chemical endangerment of a child is a Class C felony. If convicted, Reed could face up to 10 years in prison.
