James Gilbert Marquess, age 89, of Calera, went to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 17, surrounded by his family.
Jim was a gentle, loving, kind, hard working man, who loved his Lord and his family. He was also the owner of Marquess and Son Lumber Company for more than 50 years.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Nell Marquess; daughter, Charlotte Capps; son, Gilbert Marquess; parents, Claude and Goldie Marquess and sister, June Webb.
His survivors include his wife of 13 years, Allene Marquess; sons, Gary Marquess and Jeff Marquess (Mary); step-daughter, Cathy Brogden; step-son, Milton Brogden; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and his special care giver, Delilah Harris.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20 at the church.
