PELHAM— In 2014, Oak Mountain Missions in Pelham had 4,898 visits from families in need in Shelby and Jefferson Counties. To provide funding for food, financial assistance and general aid, Oak Mountain Missions is hosting its ninth annual Harvest of Hope Luncheon.

This luncheon raises one-third of the Mission’s operating expenses. Harvest of Hope Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15th at 11:30 a.m. at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center with a silent auction beginning at 10 a.m.

“It’s a very important part of our operating expense, and donations greatly help,” said Dianne Cesario, assistant director of Oak Mountain Missions.

With the number of clients increasing, Cesario said it becomes increasingly important to increase funding for the Mission.

The event will feature guests such as Janet Hall from Fox6 News, Pelham Mayor Gary Waters and The Wilson Hill Band. Hall has been the mistress of ceremonies at the event for multiple years. She basically coordinates the program for the luncheon and introduces the keynote speaker.

Each year Oak Mountain Missions features a different keynote speaker, and they chose Waters because of his connection to Pelham, where Oak Mountain Missions is located.

Cesario said Waters was excited when the Mission contacted him and he agreed to present at the event. The luncheon will also feature stories from families the Mission has helped in the past.

The silent auction begins at 10 a.m., featuring items such as weekend and weeklong condo getaways, sports packages, jewelry, gift cards for facilities and more.

There are usually about 500 people who attend the luncheon, according to Cesario.

“It is most enjoyable,” she said.  “I enjoy seeing the community come together. Everyone is working toward one goal and that is to help people in need in our community.”
