ASHLAND – A 20-year-old Vincent man is being held in the Clay County Jail on bonds totaling $150,000 after he was arrested by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 31 and charged with killing a Vincent teen.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Loren Daniel Bunner, who lists an address on Shelby County 62 in Vincent, on Aug. 31 and charged him with one count of murder.

Bunner’s arrest came one day after the sheriff’s office received a report of a possible homicide on Pinhoti Trail in Cheaha State Park in Delta.

“Several agencies were on the scene due to the uncertainty of the location of the crime,” read a release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. “Further investigation and the location of the crime scene showed that the crime had taken place in Clay County just off the Pinhoti Trail near the State Park.”

Deputies discovered 18-year-old Jolee Callan, a 2015 graduate of Vincent High School, deceased at the crime scene. According to Bunner’s arrest warrant, he allegedly shot and killed Callan with a .22-caliber Ruger Bearcat revolver.

In addition to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Oxford Police Department, Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville State University Forensics, U.S. Forestry Department agents, Cleburne County Search and Rescue and Clay County Search and Rescue assisted in the investigation of the crime, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Funeral services for Callan were held at Vincent Revival Center at 11 a.m. on Sept. 4 before she was buried at Vincent Cemetery. According to her obituary, Callan “was beloved by many family members and friends.”

As of Sept. 4, more than 25 friends and family members from across Alabama had placed condolences for the Callan family in Jolee Callan’s online guest book with the Curtis and Son Funeral Home in Childersburg.

On Sept. 1, Bunner’s attorneys filed a request to lower the suspect’s bond, claiming the $150,000 bond was “exorbitant,” and claimed the number “constitutes no bond at all.”

Clay County District Court Judge James Malone is scheduled to rule on the bond reduction request during an Oct. 6 hearing at 1 p.m. at the Clay County Courthouse.
