Bobbie Goodwin Ray, 82, a resident of Columbiana, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5 at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
She was born April 13, 1933 to John Thomas Goodwin and Thelma Lovett Goodwin in Jefferson County, Ala. She married her high school sweetheart, Truitt Coleman Ray, when she was only 16 and he only 18. They were married 57 years during which time they were co-owners of R&S Gas Company of Columbiana.
After retirement she was able to enjoy her home in Columbiana where she spoiled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She moved into Somerby Assisted Living and was cared for by their staff for the past 3 years. The family would like to thank them for their kindness during her stay.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, John Howard Goodwin, and grandchild, Wendi Denise Ray.
She is survived by her two children, Larry Ray (Sallie Bird Ray), and Wanda Speer (Ocie Speer); grandchildren, Justin Glass (Melissa), Daryl Ray (Heather), and Lindsey Buff (Joseph); and great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Adalyn Buff, Braden and Sophia Brown, Emma Grace Glass, and Parker and Elizabeth Ray.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, September 8 from 12:30-2 p.m. at Bolton Funeral Home Columbiana with graveside funeral service to follow at Pine Lawn with Brother Tom Minor officiating.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Michael Goodwin, Jeff Ray, and Tom Ray, and grandsons, Justin Glass, Daryl Ray, and Joseph Buff. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Braden Brown and Parker Ray.
