HELENA–Being a parent of a high school student can be a stressful time but Helena High School is giving parents plenty of opportunities to attend several events planned for the month of October intended to relieve some of the stress that comes with that.

The first event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the school auditorium as Lonnie Layton, a community representative for Bradford Health Services, will be speaking on the topic of substance abuse signs and trends.

Layton will present information on current substance abuse trends, what to look for in your student or student’s friends, and how everyone can work together to ensure the safety of all students, according to the event information.

The second event will be held Monday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. for financial aid night.

Financial aid night will be an overview of the financial aid process and the event is intended to address all types of financial aid including scholarships, loans, grants and work study. The presentation is geared towards senior, but anyone is welcome to come, according to the event information.

The last event for parents will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m., as parents are encouraged to attend the college admissions lunch and learn event.

Parents will bring their lunch and hear from Kali Tucker from Auburn University as she discusses general college admissions processes and procedures.

The lunch is intended to teach parents how to best prepare their students to be competitive in the admission process and to be ready when the time comes to apply, according to event information.

The presentation will inform parents on what all students in grades 9-12 should be doing to prepare for the college admissions process.
