Sept. 24

Chelsea stays perfect in area play

The Lady Hornets returned to .500 on the year with a three-set win over Pell City, 25-15, 25-15, 25-20. Lexie Riggins had 13 kills and 11 digs, Jules Hamer had 10 kills and six blocks and Sarah Prince had 14 digs to lead the Lady Hornets, who moved to 4-0 in area play with the win.

 

Briarwood gets beat by Oxford

The Lions dropped a match on Sept. 24 to Oxford in three sets, 26-16, 25-18, 25-17. Sophie Muir-Taylor had five kills and four digs for the Lady Lions on the day.

 

Oak Mountain gets bested by Hoover

In a battle of two top six 7A teams, No. 6 Oak Mountain couldn’t hang with No. 3 Hoover as the Lady Eagles fell in four sets, 24-26, 25-16, 25-23, 25-16. Oak Mountain fell to 20-8 with the loss and Cameron Rueschenberg had six kills, three aces and nine digs while Kathryn Beard had 12 assists and three digs for the Lady Eagles.

 

Thompson splits pair

The Lady Warriors split a pair of matches in a tri-match with Prattville and Prattville Christian on Sept. 24. Thompson got back to .500 at 10-10 with a win over Prattville, 25-15, 25-22 to start the night before falling to Prattville Christian and falling to 10-11 in three sets, 25-12, 18-25, 15-13. Jenni Beth Cox had 41 assists on the night while Milea Ray had 33 digs and 17 kills combined in both matches on the night.

 

Kingwood stays perfect

The second-ranked team in the AISA stayed perfect on Thursday night with a straight set win over Morgan Academy. The Lady Lions took care of business with ease, 25-8, 25-7, 25-11 to move to 15-0 on the year. Kathryn Boyd had 12 aces, seven kills, three digs and a block while Natalie Watts had 13 kills, two aces and a block as well for Kingwood.

 

Sept. 25

Shelby County wins three as host of tournament

The Lady Wildcats hosted a tournament at their gym on Friday and won three matches before falling to Isabella in three sets. Shelby County beat Altamont 25-12, 25-16; Minor 27-25, 25-21; and Jemison 23-25, 25-22, 15-12 to move to 3-0 on the day. Isabella then defeated Shelby County 25-18, 24-26, 15-11. Madison Douglas had 32 kills and 14 aces in the tournament while Megan Stevens had 20 kills, 10 aces and nine blocks.

 

Sept. 26

Briarwood finishes third in Hewitt-Trussville tourney

Briarwood took part in the Hewitt-Trussville Invitational, a tournament with 11 teams where the Lions came in third, eventually losing to Oxford for the second time in three days. Briarwood beat Hueytown in two consecutive matches, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-21, 22-25, 15-9 before beating Hewitt-Trussville in two matches as well. Then in the semi-final match, the Lady Lions fell to Oxford 25-21, 25-21. Alex O’Brien had 50 assists, 23 digs and 10 aces while Sophie Muir-Taylor had 25 kills, 24 digs and nine blocks as well in the tournament.
